I got an update for ya…

-I got married.

Algebra and I went through with it! We tied the knot in December 2011. It was perfect. All of Algebra’s friends and fam were in from Chicago and all the DramaWhores were there and on best behavior. After the nuptials, toasts and dancing we all went to the bar where Algebra and I met, conveniently located across the street from the venue. I went in my wedding dress, everyone drank too much and my mom was kicked out of the bar.

I told you it was perfect.

-I got pregnant.

Algebra and I decided that we’d be ready for a new addition to our family – and not another dog! My doc told me it could take a year for a healthy couple to get knocked up and that there’s only ONE day a month you can actually conceive (Did you know that?).

We decided to start trying earlier than anticipated since it might take awhile.

Two weeks later…

I think that’s all the details you’d like.

-I got my Masters.

Finally. Finished.

It was long and boring and I had to make many websites using HTML coding. I can’t talk about it more than that.

-I got a new job.

I had to give up teaching my amazing fourth graders to teach teachers how to use technology in their classrooms. Now, I spend my days surrounded by iDevices and troubleshooting. Playing on my iPhone is encouraged. It’s amazing (especially right now as I’m on maternity leave).

-I got (had?) a baby.

He’s perfect. Labor and delivery were terrible. Terrible. But that’s another story for another blog.

The little nugget’s name is Mayor Ted as he now runs my entire world. Being a mom is different than I expected, harder, but I do love it and I’m learning so much.

Xo,

Mama

Shit, I mean Bridget

Bridget+Algebra=Engaged

Bianca and Bailey,

Sorry it’s been so long without an email, I don’t feel too badly though, because I haven’t heard from your girlies either! Well, via email, I’ve seen lots of you in real life (imagine that) and we’ve spoken lots via all forms of iPhone communication.

So. I don’t know how to start on this because I’m not usually one for sappy lovey doveyness, but ladies, I’M ENGAGED! Algebra popped the question over Spring Break (yep, I love my job, I have a spring break and am getting dangerously near to a big summer break).

We’ve tentatively set a date for December 29th of this year which means I am currently under 8 months away from THE DAY. I’m doing my best to not become one of those girls where they get engaged and then the wedding planning consumes all forms of life and it’s all they talk about (but I realize I’m already failing). I’ve tried to set a few rules for myself.

1- Stop staring at my engagement ring when other people can see me. (I NEVER wear finger jewelry at all and this damn thing is pretty shiny. It’s a hazard while driving.)
2-Do NOT bring up wedding plans (unless there is a DIRE emergency and opinions are needed) unless someone else brings it up first.
3-Never say the word fiancé. Sorry girls, Algebra is still my boyfriend and he will be until he’s my husband. Fiancé sounds stupid coming out of my mouth (unless I’m in Vegas pretending to be French).

With under 8 months to go, it’s likely that I’ll be breaking my rule #2 (like I am right now) on a fairly consistent basis. Le sigh.

Wedding planning emergency #1: WHERE THE HELL DO I START? Any guidance anyone can give me in this region will be gratefully accepted. Bianca, thanks so much for signing up for all the wedding newsletters for me.

Since I am a self proclaimed nerd, the first thing I did was claim the URL bridgetandalgebra.com and start a wedding website (just for the basic information and so I don’t have to take any paper RSVP’s, I mean, I drive a Prius, my wedding will have as little impact on the environment as possible). Sure, I don’t have any information to put up on the website, but it exists and I’ve done something for the wedding and that’s all that matters to me. Any progress counts, right?

Note: While I’m engaged and even after the wedding I still plan on having girl’s night more than once a week and going out just like we do now. If I stop getting invited to the bar or themed house parties, I will give new meaning to bridezilla. Got it, betches?

Trying to dodge the sappy and refusing to even look at wedding dresses until I drop 10 pounds,
Bridget

PS-When do I need to order one of those dresses by, anyway? Eph.

Warning: Too Much Information

Hi Bianca and Bailey!

How are you lovely ladies?! I MISS YOU, BAILEY! And I’m so glad we could meet up for lunch yesterday, Bianca! I’m so stoked for Algebra’s surprise birthday party this weekend! Since you gals are coming, it feels like a party for me.. Sh… don’t tell Algebra (about the party or about me stealing his party thunder and totally enjoying it).

So. I had to take yesterday off (TMI, you’ve been warned) because I have a super painful UTI. It’s horrible. I haven’t had one of these since I was like 10. What the heck?! Where did it come from and why is it showing up now? (My yogi friend is sure it is because I’m stressed, so I’m going to take a moment right now and apologize to my bladder for being super stressed out and not taking adequate bathroom breaks. But ,bladder, I’m (we’re?) a teacher, a bathroom break is a luxury we don’t have.)

Being the kind and wonderful(?) coworker I am, I warned my colleague that I was sick and would have a sub. The dialogue went this way:

Me: Hi! Just FYI I got started getting sick after afternoon recess, got sicker, went to the doctor, am on super strong antibiotics, left sub plans and will have a sub tomorrow.

Her: Oh you first year teachers get sick all the time. I’m sure you’ll be feeling better soon.

Me: (I AM A THIRD YEAR TEACHER, JERK!) Ha. I didn’t know that being a first year teacher caused UTI’s.

Her: Well it sounds like you’re not contagious, so enjoy your day off.

Me: {BRAIN EXPLOSION!}

Am I just being ubber sensitive because I’m stressed out or is she being a jerk? Blah. I think it’s super inconsiderate and mean. Sure, I’m not contagious, but I also couldn’t stand and had to pee every three minutes. RUDE.

Anyway. To make the day better, I have parent teacher conferences today and tomorrow! WA freaking HOO!!!!!!!!

Luckily, my yogi friend suggested some beverages to get me through the day and I think they’re working. I’m actually in a great mood and ready to be here for another 1,345 hours.

Sipping coconut water and Kombucha (I don’t know what it is either),

Bridget

P.S. In case that wasn’t enough information for you – – – the antibiotics turn my pee bright orange. Annnnnd I’m finished.

Lethargic Excitement {sniffle, cough, cough}

Why hello there my dear Prius pals,

Happy day one of the work week, Bianca! And happy day two to you, Bailey!

This weekend was pretty awesome. Well, it had it’s ups and downs.

I worked a short day on Friday (free from kids to finalize grades), but quickly started feeling sick. Two of my students puked in my classroom last week and winded up having strep. Gross. As a precautionary measure I went to an instacare to get a strep test, luckily I didn’t have it, but since it wasn’t anything serious, they treated me like a tard for coming in (but had I not have gone in and had strep, I for sure would have been yelled at for not going in until it was super awful. Blah!).

Since Algebra had his big show this weekend (more on that later) I was doing anything to feel better for Saturday night. I took a variety of cold meds, herbs, teas and probably narrowly avoided a few deadly combos. I stayed in on Friday night (okay, so I went and got a pedicure, but that’s relaxing so it doesn’t count) and slept most of Saturday (yes, I was sleeping when I got my new eyelash extensions so that doesn’t count either).

The roomie had to do school work Saturday night before the show and Algebra had to do a sound check, so I was left alone with Wiener. Bad things happen when I’m left to come up with my own ways to entertain myself. I’m an only child. I’m creative. So! I taught Wiener to do a trick. Oh yes, I was THAT bored. You’ll both be happy to know little Wiener can successfully sit, lay down AND roll over {patting myself on the back}.

Since I was still feeling like sh*t, I missed out on Algebra’s pre-party for the concert and stayed in my sweats until I absolutely had to throw on my dress, over the knee socks and heels (I went a little overboard with my outfit to compensate for feeling yucky). I made it to the venue just in time to wish the boyfriend good luck and see them go up on stage. The night was kind of hazy because of my concoction of cold remedies, but guess what?! Algebra’s band, King Niko, won the City Weekly Music Awards: Band of the Year! SO! AWESOME! Can you believe it?! I mean, I know we think they’re awesome, but now everyone else does, too! Yay, King Niko!

Bailey, no worries that you couldn’t make it to the venue to celebrate with us, but I am excited to hear about your cowboy bar experience! Please, tell me there are pictures.

Bianca, thank you so much for rushing down with Preston! You made it just in time to see them announced as Band of the Year! Since I feared for my liver because of all the acetaminophen, I was DD and glad I could help you out since there were no remaining cabs in the City of Salt. I can’t wait for you to share your Bikini Pink Prius Cab idea and Frost Bite Rage with Bailey.

{Cough, sneeze}
Wondering when my cold will end and how to disinfect my students,
Bridget

The Calm After the Storm

Why hello there, return San Diego travelers!

I hope you both had an excellent vacation to San Diego! The pictures look incredible, I bet the sunshine was miraculous. I can’t wait to hear all about your trip!

While you were gone I went to a King Niko show (for the City Weekly Music Awards), a Jazz game and watched the Super Bowl with some friends and the family. Good times, but I definitely missed feeling your presence in SLC.

On Sunday (before puppy training class – Imma kill Wiener), I went to Jami’s Sunday class at Flow Yoga. That class makes my whole week. It’s like church, but with thought-provoking messages you actually want to listen to, people you’d actually like to be around, stretching, challenging poses and no stale ‘body and blood’ of Jesus (I’ve still never been able to wrap my brain around the whole communion/sacrament thing, btw. Ew. Why do I want to eat Jesus? After a decade in Catholic School, you’d think I’d get it or at least accept it, but nay.) ANYWAY. After yoga I had resolved to become this calm and kind and open human. I was going to be the epitome of zen.

Ha.

Fast forward 24 hours and I’m the exact opposite. I’m cursing at everyone that dares share the freeway with me, making snotty comments to my Research Design professor, on the brink of calling one of the DramaWhores and giving them a piece of my not-so-Zentastic mind and picking an extremely irrational fight with Algebra (that lasted a good 4 hours – and ended with me crying and apologizing for being such a betch).

However, after I got all that crazy out of my system, I’m actually feeling really calm and awesome today. Today is a great day, my friends! I’ve been singing and dancing around the classroom and we even did fourth grade yoga. I’m pretty sure my kids think I’ve been doing drugs – but nay, I’m just having a good day.

Perhaps I needed purge a few things before I could actually start a journey of yoga like calmness.

Namaste,
Bridget

PS Bianca – after our IM about Lululemon, I went to the showroom to check out snobbish yoga gear and I have a confession: I’m hooked. If you ever think I’m putting on Nike ish ever again, you’re sorely mistaken. It’s amazing. Eff my paycheck from the school district (really, eff it, I blew a quarter of it on yoga gear), I want to quit my job and work at the Lulu store just so I can wear the gear all day. Do you think they put crack the material or something?!
